Soap Box Challenge - the photo diary

Choose a day:         Preparation         Race Day 1         Race Day 2

We enter race day in hot contention as 7th seeds...except we now only have the pushing power of 1 and a half mechanics due to Matt's incident on the pit bike...can we still cut the custard?

  • Team Extreme Trifle reveal their secret weapon...Captain Custard...

*

  • Murray Walker (our race day commentator) drops in for a chat...

*

  • Meanwhile our Custard Technologists swing in to action as we wait for the race...

*

  • No turning back...the start line 12 metres up...50,000 people waiting for a crash...

*

  • It's a green light...GO GO GO (as Murray likes to say)...

*

  • And possibly the crappest start in the history of crap starts...last over the edge!!

*

  • The race is on and we're in third place at the bottom of the ramp.

*

  • Captain Custard gradually begins to reel in Team Locust Elise.

*

  • Unfortunately the point at which he catches up with them is at the chicane where the course can only fit 1 kart through...in the ensuing collision the Extreme Trifle spoon gets airborne and Captain Custard takes out a hay bale as shown on Trifle-cam...

*

  • From then on it was never possible to catch the leaders and we rolled over the line in an unspectacular third place although it was livened up slightly when Captain Custard realised he couldn't stop and ploughed in to the haybales and was flipped out over the front of the kart!!

We did still however manage to win our heat! Thanks to the points scoring system we got maximum points for crowd pleasing and a high score from Murray Walker for creativity with our kart design. This put us in position 15 (the top 20 qualifiers would go through to round two). As the other heats progressed however we slowly slipped down the rankings and eventually missed out on a place in the second round by just one point!

After that the only thing to do was lie back and enjoy the rest of the action but not before we'd paid a fitting tribute to the Extreme Trifle kart - a big air burial! Top marks to the crane operator for happily obliging!

  • The Extreme Trifle kart heads for the ground from 60ft - killed in action!

*

And finally a BIG BIG thanks to our gorgeous Red Bull rep Hannah Spanner - so nice we had to put her in twice...

Until next year!!
