During the afternoon the teams pass through scrutineering and the enter the qualifying heats for race day. We glued some bricks to the front forks as the kart kept flipping over and added the all important Custard supersoakers and UHT spray guns. The team takes comfort from the fact that several karts end up in the bales before they've even got to the bottom of the ramp - before it dawns that the same thing is likely to happen to us...
Later on that afternoon our Red Bull rep (Hannah Spanner) tell us the shocking news...we've actually recorded the 7th fastest time of the day - out of 84 karts!! This is not at all going to plan - to say we were amazed was an understatement. Without delay the team adandon any further work and start celebrating (with the aid of cold Stella naturally)....
As the celebrations get more and more ridiculous Matt decides to go for the title of "King Hay Bale" and takes a 40ft run up on the pit bike...the take off is impressive...the mid-air flight is graceful (as he clears the bales entirely)...the landing on the other hand is..err...well let's just say Matt did not get up...
Matt's collar bone is shattered in more places than back wheel of the pit bike... We decide to console ourselves at the free cider bar...but not before grabbing ourselves a couple of Miss Custards...
Due to over indulgence at the free cider bar there are no photos of the Red Bull party in the evening but judging by the state of us at breakfast on race day is was a good 'un... << Preparation Race Day 2 >> |
