The news from day fourteen...The teams that made it to Russia would now enjoy the latest instalment of the trip - getting out of Russia - they even manage to make that difficult! This time round only photo driving licences were acceptable which meant that Sarah and Jenny from FAB1 had to swap around and pretend to be Matt and Dave's wives so they could drive their cars...not before the usual stream of border guards had taken it in turns to waste the odd hour and attempt the odd bit of extortion. When the teams wouldn't budge they settled for stealing Matt's camcorder... Meanwhile Hoo in the Delorean lets the Duke Boys and Starsky & Hutch know that you can't get in to Estonia without a UK registration document - oh it just gets better!! They cut their losses and leave the cars in Helsinki getting a ferry across to the Estonian capital of Tallin where the other teams will collect them on the way to Latvia... Dan & Jackie in the A-Team van spectacularly make up for their complete lack of breakdowns previously when the engine falls out (yes, falls out!) during a reverse bump starting manouevre! The teams all head on for the "finish line", Jurmala in Latvia, where they will meet up with old friends from the 2003 Plymouth Dakar Rally, Maris and Oskars...
Tomorrow Maris and Oskars would be laying on a "civic reception"...we were soon to realise that this means something very different in Latvia... |
