What are the dates? June 15th - June 21st. We shall be departing from the port of Newhaven on Friday 15th. The ferry of choice is the 2.00pm crossing (click here for details) arriving in Le Harve for 8.00pm. Try and book early as there will be a lot of Brits making the trip for Le Man weekend! Cost was £33 for a one way crossing when we booked it. (We'll be coming back via Calais and will book that nearer the time). If you can't get the week off you can just come for the Le Mans weekend. What do I need? A step-thru. The C90 is the vehicle of true champions but the Yamaha Townmate 80cc and SuzukiFR80 are also suitable. Other bikes will be considered provided they are suitably crap. Do not bother with a 50cc as even at the kerb-crawling speeds of a 90cc you'll get left behind! You are of course encouraged (expected) to pimp your ride and wear a comedy outfit. How many people in each team? Best stick to one per bike. Two would be a squeeze to say the least but don't let us stop you. We did manage eight people at Le Mans but that was only for 50 yards before crashing in to a portaloo. Remember you also need room on it for your tent, sleeping bag and clothes. What if we breakdown? We will be taking a bicycle repair kit off an old Raleigh Chopper so that should be able to sort out most issues but it would still be wise for you to check that yor bike can make it to the shops and back before we go. What do we do if we get lost? Everyone gets lost at some point - that's part of the adventure. Most people tend to congregate into small groups - this is a) sensible in case of a disaster b) more fun as there are fellow competitors to crash into and to share the experience with. Not much fun if the only photos you have of the trip are of you, your co-driver and a muddy ditch. If you're determined to "go it alone" don't let us stop you - in fact you might as well just fly there yourself and do it! Where do we stay? We'll be camping at the Le Mans circuit but after that we'll just make it up as we go along. How much will it cost? Ferry (return) £60, Le Mans entry £40, Beer, food and campsites ??At least there will be no speeding fines. How do I register for the event? Simply fill out the contact form with the words "Ring Sting" in your message. Now get on Ebay and find a steppy! |
